Blogo - Powerful blog editor App Reviews

Such a great app

Blogo is the best blogging tool for content creators, period. It’s true that there are some things you cannot make from the app such as change font color, but being sincerely, who does that? My WordPress theme is very well designed and I dont need to keep changing css and font design all the time. Blogo does exactly what I need today: offline blogging, preview, medium integration and image editor. It is one of my most loved and used tools.

I LOVE the Blogo UI and I’d like to get it working. I originally thought it was a server side issue, but MarsEdit, Ecto, Windows Live Writer, and Byword all work flawlessly. I hope it gets fixed because $30 isn’t pocket change. —————————————————————————————— Update. Now it’s subscription based. You will not be able to use the app without setting up an account if you purchased in previously. I’m tired of subscriptions. This one is not worth it.

Don’t waste your $$

I got this initially and it worked okay. It simply connects you to wordrpess to update remotely. Then they changed it to some subscription based app. Not really sure why, but I think it simply adds a layer of unecessary complexity. Why would I want to buy an app AND subcribe to a service simply to update a wordpress website? It’s kind of a messy solution.

Have to sign up just to use the app. Deleted.

TextExpander all over again

Given there are so many other options, your subcription pricing is ludicrous.

Waited a long while for an update … Save your money or don’t update to this version!

If I could give them a -star rating. We waited for an update, now they’ve given us an update but demand that we create some kind of account or log in, just to use the software. This presents a problem becasue you can’t see what they’ve done to evaluate the changes. I don’t want to create YET another account for someone to SPAM me with. I don’t want to share stuff across devices and if I did, I’d expect to do it using iCloud, DropBox, or some other cloud service. I don’t like that I could use Blogo yesterday, and today I can’t without some account thing. I’m done with Blogo. MarsEdit works like a champ, and is a mature roboust piece of software. I think Blogo just flused themselves down the tubes. I’m flushing them from my system.

This is a load of crap. Google+ login is flat-out broken. Total waste of time and disk space. Go elsewhere for blogging support.

A total scam.

I bought this app for almost 30$, and now is free plus they charge 10$ monthly for using some basic functions available in other apps like MarsEdit. This subscription is as expensive as Office or Adobe CC. I really don’t know what they are thinking but this price scheme is just a total scam. I was waiting for a proper update but important features are still missing. This app is just too basic, the way to format text is not friendly. Basic formatting like aligning text, changing font size, font color or changing properties of embed image are missing. This are basic properties that makes a difference in a blog. Nice way to make happy loyal customers.

Requires an expensive monthly subscription.

I made the mistake of updating to the new version without reading the reviews. I paid $15.00 for this app in 2015. This “free" newer version requires you to sign up for a $10.00 monthly service. I deleted it and restore the old version from backup. There are many blog apps available without a costly subscription such as DeskPM which I also own, is very similar to Blogo and if I handt been able to restore the old version I would have just forget about Blogo and switch to another blog app. Don’t waste your money, don’t waste your time.

Think carefully before downloading.

This is my first App Store review and I’m sad to say it has to be a word of caution. This app was a pay-once and use. It has now been converted to a subscription service. This is the trend for app developers because of the opportunity to generate continuous revenue streams rather than depending on one time purchases. I understand this. However, there has to be a better way to care for the orignial users. This one offers 3 months of free continued service. Although it is similar to the original price paid it falls short of engendering the goodwill they hoped. There are now too many subcription or add on apps out there. Value has been lost in the competition for our finite resources. The product nor subscription isn’t revolutionary enough to replace other free or lower cost options. Consider yourself warned and may the buyer not only “beware" but also be heard.

Old users get 3 years free, really?! I love it!

I don’t know if people haven’t read things through because I’ve read a lot of complaints regarding the subscription issue. I just wanted to say something. I bought Blogo back in the day and they really care about the early user, by giving us THREE!! YEARS!! free i must say U guys won my heart. Also, the free subscription works just fine if you only have to manage one blog. What was a already excellent tool just became better, bigger and prettier for sure! Thanks guys for working non-stop in the product and for the ready support. :) Waiting to see whats to come. So excited !

LOVE IT!! (get’s better and better)

I am super happy with this app! I have been wanting a desktop app for eons and was thrilled but skeptical when I took a jump to try the app out. I LOVE IT. The blogo team is attentive and hard at work keeping it up-to-date as needed for fixes and improvments. A good sign. If you blog this is a serious tool you’ll quickly love! :) **** Updated Review. I stand by my original comments. Great desktop (AND MOBILE!) blogging app by far, amazing company and crew. Super appreciate the 3-year kick for being an earlier adopter. :) You won’t regret using this awesome app!

Was Great While it Lasted

It would have made more sense to do a one upgrade fee and not a monthly fee. I uninstalled Blogo and went back to Desk.

Stiffed by the subscription gate… feel cheated.

Sorry. This was a upcoming and promising app. I paid for the app when it was sold as a standalone blogging app on my mac. I did not buy a service with an accoun, and I would not have bought an app that required a subscription just to use the app. Trashing the app. Get rid of the email list building and circumventing the app store anonimity. I don’t want a "Pro blogging subscription” You aren’t offering me anything worth paying for. I already paid for the app that you now lock me out of because you want to upsell me. I feel cheated because I paid you good mazuma for this app, and now you changed the entire value proposition and now prevent me from using what I bought. It’s like a bait and switch. I see only now that there is 3 years free for people like me, but it is really confusing how one gets that. I still have to make an account with Blogo, and even then it isn’t very clear. And it’s $70 a year after that? Seriously?

Update if you want a subscription based service.

I paid 30 dollars and they made Blogo free. Well, maybe that is okay. With the update relased today, I can’t even access the blogs. You must create an account with Blogo (or log in with G+ or Facebook) — what is funny is that the app doesn’t respond. This is a very bad example of ripping customers. I am not sure if I have seen worse. Why do these developers make a perfectly usable app into a worthless crap? I understand they want to keep making money but ripping off the customers who paid to support you is not the very best way, I would say. In sum, I strongly advise you not to pay anything for this app Blogo. It is likely that they will change the pricing policy and rip you off again! At least it happened once, and they keep doing it. update on 2016/4/27: they now offer 3-year free subscription for those who paid for previous versions. It’s a nice gesture. I only hope that they did it before making everyone upset and shoutout.

How to ruin your brand and anger your customers…

Version 3.0.5: Releasing fast updates with no real substantial bug-fixes or features only serves the purpose for erasing the negative reviews. Were not buying-it, Blogo. You can show a sign of good-faith to your current and former customers by making Version 2.x of Blogo (that didnt require a subscription) available for download on your website. Version 3.0.4: BE CAUTIOUS of 5-star reviews when the user has only ever posted ONE review on the App Store. Im not saying that theres any astroturfing going on here, but you owe it to yourself to look at ALL the reviews for the most recent versions of this app and draw your own conclusions. Purchased the original Blogo back in 2006-2007 timeframe back when it had a rabbit for a logo (at least I think that was a rabbit). And that version was EPIC. It was good. It was AWESOME. Yes it had bugs, but it did EVERYTHING I wanted it to do and more. Then Blogo went away for YEARS. It resurfaces and is re-written, and I purchased THAT (this) software. It was like $15-$25 but woth it. Now Blogo wants me to fork over even more money? For what? Aside from the fact I dont want my data to be syncd to remote servers, $10 per month is wholesale too much to charge. I pay Netflix $10/ month, and they bring me House of Cards. What has Blogo brought me other than new ways of asking me for money? Youve given me 3 years of "pro" service for being a long time customer. Thats nice. Thank you. But you failed to take into account that I manage blogs and content for several people and Id rather not have disparate types of content and accounts co-mingled with my own. But hey! WordPress 4.5 was released and theyve done a FANTASTIC job on the content editor, and it now even has responsive previews built in! Uninstalling. Remember kids, there are cheaper and better alternatives.

They didn’t mention the change of how they’ll charge in V. 3.0

When Ver. 3.0 came out, I read the "What’s New in 3.0.0" before updating the app. It didn’t mention the change to subscription service (It did start to mention it in V 3.0.4). What a cheap shot to make users update to 3.0 without thorough information? They might be building an okay app(I won’t call Blogo 2.X and Blogo 3.X a fine app for it has lots of bugs), but they’ve lost my trust. Let’s put aside the trust issue and focus on the financial part, for $70 a year, I can choose between blogging platforms such as PostHaven, Ghost. Or maybe quality editors like Ulysses. How about the famous and great web app “StackEdit”? It cost only $5/year or $25/lifetiem and it can also publish posts to blogs. You see? There’s no reason for me to choose Blogo just for that additional buggy blogging function.

Such Potential but SO Slow and unreliable

I was so excited when I found this app. I used to use Windows Live Writer, which is fast and offers so many amazing features for FREE, however I switched over to Mac and to my dismay there is nothing like Windows Live Writer avaliable and definitly nothing for free. I tried this app because it seemed like it would work however it is missing so many features. There is no text alignment which really annoying. You also can not change the font size easily. Adding pictures is so slow. So far I have only been able to do it one picture at a time and sometimes that can take up to a minute a picture and then it doesn’t even insert it into my post. The picture size is set at a standard size which is HUGE, so I have to manually adjust it for each picture. Because of how anoying this app is I am digging out my old Windows Laptop and attempting to use Live Writer from there becasue I think it will be faster than using Blogo on a brand new MacBook Pro. I think the creators of this app need to check out Live Writer and try to make this app more like that!!!

great blogging app

I was looking for similar app for blogging on mac very long. This one is very good. It saves my time and I focus only on writing my blog. Recommend to install and try!

Markdown support weak and expensive subscription model

Originally purchased in August 2014 with promised markdown support to be delivered soon after. Weak markdown support delivered April 2016. Now an expensive subscription model. Even with 3 year free to original customer I cannot recommend this app. Too many bugs and issues that cannot be overlooked in a subscription model. $10 per month or $70 per year for this app? Buy MarsEdit, it works and you pay once for a better solution.
