Blogo - Powerful blog editor App Reviews

You should give it a try

I’ve read some reviews and considered the pros and cons of this app. I’ve decided to give it a try. I write a blog about travel and been able to write offline has been the best experience so far. The image editor helps me a lot. Adjustments are quick and easy, so I can crop images and apply some built-in filters. They keep improving it. Another great update from the Blogo team!

If you blog from a Mac, you should check out Blogo

I bought into Blogo early. I was blogging using LiveWriter on a Window VM so that was my comparison. I started posting stuff in the Blogo support forums and sure enough, they respond! Not only do they respond they act! This is a devoted team of talented folks who also have a great support staff with folks like Gisele. I wish more app teams were like this. I’ve now moved off of Live Writer and am really enjoying using Blogo. I still have a couple of (minor) things I’d like to see but I know I only have to post something in the forum and I’m pretty sure it’ll show up in a near future release. :)

The best blogging tool for Mac!

My blog was completely lost in time and this app helped me to start blogging again. It’s very simple and straight forward, connected my blog in seconds. I use Evernote a lot and it’s integration is awesome. Keep up the good work, guys!

Great app but with plenty of annoying bugs

The app could be amazing. If the bugs were cleaned up faster this would be my go to blogging app. Hopefully they fix it up really fast and I can change to 5 stars. The 2 star dropping bugs that I have emailed about are: -Blogs have stopped posting to WP. Kind of a huge deal for a blogging app. I have to copy and paste what I write into the WP website. I have been getting constant “no name” error messages. -When I post the pasted blog it shows up duplicated in my Blogo app… When I attempt to delete it, it deletes for a moment with another “no name” error message. And then pops right back into the blog list once I resync. -And finally… The “no name” generic error messages. A specific error message would help the users troubleshoot on their own, and will help you guys figure out what is going on when users receive an error. Please fix the bugs asap! I love this app and it has been very useful… Up until last week :(

Cool when it works

Blogo has a lot of promise. The interface is slick, and the ideas and paradigms are pretty spiffy. The execution, however, is lacking. Posting to Blogger can hang the program (especially if you try updating a post that you’ve deleted from blogger.com); image sizes don’t always stick; spaces between paragraphs in the final post aren’t consistent and don’t necessarily reflect the whitespace in the editor. If the bugs were cleaned up, this would be one heck of a program.

Buggy and Lost Work

Very buggy and I have lost work from it burping. Contacted Blogo and they don’t seem to care. Not worth the risk using this anymore. Waste of time. Shame on you Blogo for putting something out like this.

I love this app. DEFENITLY RECOMMEND IT!!

This app make it really easy to post to the blog. The built it image editor makes things a lot more time saving too. So much of the Wordpress stuff is available right inside the app like setting categories and featured images and tags. Also, the browser extension is really nice added feature that other blogging apps don’t have. I really like being able to preview the post beofre uploading it. You can also update your template so that it looks just as it would in the browser. I had an issue when I had to reload my blog, minor bug. The reply was quick and came with screenshots to be able to fix the bug in a few seconds. DEFENETLY RECOMMEND THIS.

Another great update

I use Blogo since it’s launch few months ago and every update I feel they are improving the product. Medium is their third supported platform and I can see how strong it is. They always ship a very stable product. Keep up with the good work!

I really wanted to love this app

I really like the look of the app and it runs fast and never crashes. However whenever I update a post, it creates a new version with a different slug ID. Have never been able to solve it so I just went back to Mars Edit, which gets the job done without errors.

The Best. Period.

Far and away the best blogging app for OSX - the smoothest, easiest route between your thoughts and your blog.

Updated: Only suitable for pretty much most of all the pages and posts

Title: Only suitable for the simplest of pages and posts This app is another attempt at mimicking a first class app experience for editing wordpress blogs however, despite doing well in a lot of areas, it falls down executing too many tasks. Collecting images from the site is a particular issue, one click on the wrong part of the app and up comes the spining beachball - no feedback on what it’s doing just force-quit as the only option. I’ve left it for 10 mins now collecting the featured image on a post - a 10KB file and it’s still jammed up. Also need to address the “Cylone” graphic that doesn’t stop! To its credit, I did update some simple pages and for that it works but, “2-star I don’t like it” for me. ** Update May 8, 2015 I’m downgrading my rating to one-star. I’m constanly failing to update existing posts - when I do I receive a popup “Invalid Term ID” followed by the login challenge. I re-enter my credentials and we go around again. ** Update November 25, 2015 I’ve been ignoring the many updates taking place on the app for the last year but today I had resaon to give it another go… Wow, OK, these guys weren’t idle. They’ve fixed the bugs that stopt me using the app and now the very blog-centric editor starts to really make sense, e.g. selecting a sentance and hitting the heading button selects a heading appropriate for the level. That’s thoughtfull. The killer feature is the live preview though - OK, it can’t be 100% in all cases but in most, it’s more than enough. I’m going to start using this fo my regular work and see how we get on.

Medium integration was a great move.

Now I can choose and co-write between my blogs or just mirror everything. This saved me so much time. The preview feature is absolutely amazing!!! Happy to see how much you guys must have been working cause there was great progress and bug fixes!! Had an issue with syincing and support helped me almost immediately. Gotta give a shout out to the looks of it…sleeker than ever, well done!!!

Serious flaws in this app

REVIEW UPDATED: Sept 2015 When I stumbled across Blogo I was in search of an offline Wordpress blogging application for my Mac. I had 3 major requirements: 1. The tool needed to have great integration with Wordpress 2. The tool needed to have full functionality offline 3. The tool needed to be able to synchronize well Some nice to haves included: - Being able to drag and drop photos - Being able to easily align text around photos Here are some of the issues with the trial version from Sept 2015 (I’ll retest these in this updated Mac App Store version): - When working on a blog post, the tool often “refreshes” your draft to the last saved version on the online blog. This results in overwriting my current draft with an older version, which wastes much time and effort. I finally stopped using the trial because I got tired of losing work. - You can’t undo a set of changes. If I accidentally edit a blog post draft, it stays in that edited mode and I can’t easily revert back to the current online version. - I can’t synchronize my drafts to Evernote. Although the option is there, I continuously get error messages when I try to do this. - Text cannot be right-justified. In addition, Blogo left-justifies all right-justified text in a previously published blog post. This drove me crazy. I changed some tags on some old posts and after publishing the changes, realized that all of my text was improperly left-justified. I now have to go back into each blog post in online Wordpress to go correct these issues. - There are issues when copying and pasting bullet points. For instance, I tried to copy and paste a set of bullet points from Evernote. I highlighted the section to replace in Blogo and then pasted the new bullets in. Instead of replacing those bullet points, the paste resulted in pasting a copy under the original text. It took awhile to fix the formatting, etc. to get it right. - You cannot change the color of text. - The number of synchronized pages is incorrect. I am showing a page in Blogo that does not truly exist in Wordpress. It won’t come off my list in Blogo.

Slowly Getting There

I’ll leave the old review down below. I’ve had this since it came out and after each update I will try it out, but have to say it basically has almost no functionality aside from just making a quick word post. Otherwise, sorting, viewing, editing, everything is cumbersome, non-existent or just doesn’t work (with warning errors that don’t make sense). I know the developers are working on it, but I can’t say I would recommend this... OLD REVIEW I read all the reviews and despite all the warnings that it’s beta went ahead and made the purchase. It is a good start, they’ve put in good effort and attention to detail. It’s going to need a lot of work, and I really hope it will develop. Most frustrating, is the lack of functions within the app. Basic things like choosing from pre-existing categories that you always post with or other simple fields that modify posts, none of these exist. I keep going back and back to this app hoping that it can provide a fast way of updating sites, but I find it too questionable that I never know what I’m going to get and it doesn’t handle things correctly (text formatting, video embeds, categories, etc). What is good : the strong point is posting. You can write and post really quickly, just like editing a text document. Other smaller issues : lack ability to filter and sort content. It’s hard to see clearly what is in your blog. This could be such an awesome app if it offered good ways to really interact with the posts and pages inside of a WP blog. Instead, right now Pages and Posts are just all clumped together in an unhelpful way and you can’t even adjust the width of the post title column to read the complete titles to find what you are looking for. I was really hoping for the ability to make some quick modifications and edits which can be so cumbersome in WP. I haven’t found the major speed problems that others mentioned, so maybe the update helped improve those issues.

constant connection errors

This is a great looking app and, based on my first several communications with them, it comes with awesome support. But I have constant connection problems, mostly of the mysterious kind. I just don’t have the time to continue to troubleshoot.

Don’t like subscriptions for software

I downloaded it because it was free. The first thing I’m ‘forced’ to do if I want to use the app is sign up. No thanks. I’m not a fan of software going the way of yearly subscription fees. $70- $120 per year, are you kidding? Did the developers take a survey of their client base and get feedback that we want to pay out that much yearly for an app like this? Or did they just change because they thought it was a good idea to get more money. I understand being paid fairly for development, but $70-$120 per year, per YEAR, just to be able to use the app? Doesn’t seem very customer minded/friendly to me. This looks like it was a pretty well developed app. Too bad I won’t be using it. Can’t even take a look for free without giving up my contact info. Sorry, deleting.

Account required

Can’t use it without creating a blogo service account. I don’t want my data synced to your servers.

Used to love this app but now no more

I purchased the previous version of this application and although it has some issues (Evernote integration can be flaky and one of my WordPress accounts refuses to accept posts from this software) I have found it very useful so I was excited that a new version was released. I guess I should have read the release information more closely as not only does this software now require a “account” but the application is locked until I register (the register dialog is displayed and there is no cancel option). I don’t want my posts sync’d anywhere other than my local disk and my blog. I would have paid $29 for the upgrade (same as the original software) but $70 - $120 sorry that is a rip off. I will no longer be using this application as I have uninstalled it.

Nope. Not again.

I bought Blogo when it first came out. The app was cleanly designed, although it was often buggy. Still, I ponied up $14.99 for it, thinking it would be useful. I had an on-and-off love affair with Blogo. It was OK, yet unreliable. Every few months I’d come back and try again, and it was steadily improving. Suddenly, they moved from buying the app (for $14.99) to a $9.99 PER MONTH subscription model. Seriously? It didn’t work reliably before, why would I pay eight times as much EVRY YEAR for this? It’s convenient, but dealing with the Wordpress screens and editor isn’t THAT much of an inconvenience. For some applications, a subscription model makes sense. This is not one of those kinds of apps.

v3.0.1 Bombs On OS X 10.9.5

It is impossible to run version 3.0.1 on OS X 10.9.5 from my experience. I’ve clean installed it twice. The bombing is immediate and consistent: "Crashed Thread: 0 Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV) Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x0000000000000000” It runs fine on OS X 10.11.4.
