Blogo - Powerful blog editor App Reviews

Pro Version? Way to kill a great product.

I have used Blogo from the beginning. With each release, it has become more and more polished. However, the developers seem have become a bit greedy; the previous product features are now only available with an expensive paid annual subscription. The free version does not have the same functionality as the pro version. Early adopters of Blogo get a three year pro subscription… it remains to be seen if I’ll continue to use Blogo after my subscription runs out.

Account? Seriously?

Very Bad Still not working proxy And creating blogo account… what’s this? I really dont need your account! I just want to write my blog on wordpress! Very dismissed

Very useful

I like very much this app. Essential for any blogger

What the heck is bloggo pro?

I purchased this app when it launched last year. At the time there was absolutely no mention of a subscription. Now Bloggo has pivoted to a subscription model and the app is free. In exchange for my purchase they’re offering me three free years! There’s just one problem, they’e done a terrible job of explaining what Bloggo Pro is or why anyone would pay for the service? They’ll keep my content safe? Sure they will. I host my own WordPress blogs and maintain my own WordPress backups. I have no need for an additional service.

Good app for cross platforms

I purchased over MarsEdit because I could do more formatting. Initially, I had problems but it was not with the app but with my host settings (my fault). It is clean, simple and easy to use for me.

So far no good

I was so excited this is a beautiful app. Then I tried it and I am disappointed. I started it up, added an image. All good. Then I wrote about 5 paragraphs of text and tried to add another image. When I did the image just went up to the top of the post. I deleted it and tried again, no luck, went to the top. I deleted the image again and then tried dragging it in…to the top. I thought OK, maybe I’m doing it wrong. Then I added a “Read More” divider. When I uploaded to my website it was just gone. Did it again, no luck. I did finally get this to work by adding all of the text above the “Read more” to the “Excerpt” box. So far I have had this 2 days, and I have had major issues.

Still trying to sync my blogs between MACs

Not really sure why but after creating a Blogo account I expected all my blogs would sync between my two computers (home vs office). They don’t. So exactly what DOES a Blogo account do?

Zero Stars is Too Many

Updated and now I need an account and subscription to use the software. To say that blows is an understatement. I don’t want my info on your servers. Not now, not ever. I don’t want more subscription software and if I did I could get Office 365 for the price of Blogo. No value here. Avoid at all costs, these guys are here to rip you off. I only blog on the Wordpress platform and I’ll just usee their built in editor and evernote to blog with. Thanks but no.

What happened to this app?! - These developers are scam artists!

This is absurd. Why do I now have to sync my information with some random company?? I paid for this app as a standalone program. I am deleting this. I wish I can get my money back. This is soooo misleading. Avoid this app - dare I say, also the developer - at all costs. Very misleading business model. You pay for one thing and then they make an update and you get something completely different. This is a disaster if Apple allows this to be their new policy - i.e., you pay for a standalone program and then forced into a subscription. If any company wishes to make such a drastic change, they should simply create a new app (e.g., Blogo Pro). They should NOT be permitted to update an app that people have already purchased and force them into a subscription. I’ve really had it with all these subscription programs and now, I’m hesitant to purchase anything on the Apple store becasue I can’t be assured that my purchase of a standalone program means anything. Can you at least provide a link for the older version of the program!? Update (v. 0.10): I decided to reinstall the app to see if the developers have listened to any of the comments on this issue. Needless to say, they haven’t as I still need to create an account even though I **PAID** for a standalone program. They are officially scam artists. Bait and switch galore!

Great Potential, but routinely crashes

I am a professional blogger and I have been searching for a reliable markdown blogging app for the mac for some time. This unfortunately, is not that app. in the 4 hours I ahve used this app today, it has crashed three times. Each time I have lost work on my current blog post. In addition, the preview is not accurate and at time, completely broken.

Avoid Blogo (updated)

Version 3.0.11: Still ★☆☆☆☆. Its nice that Blogo is finally making Version 2.0 available to us "old timers" (minus any bug fixes) but the fact still remains, this App still requires an account and a grossly over-priced subscription to use properly. Save your money and purchase MarsEdit instead. Version 3.0.10: Dear Blogo, Want me to give you five-stars instead of one? Give me back the functionality in 2.0 that you took away from me when you forced this 3.0 "stuff" down our throats. I get that you instituted the subscription to curb piracy, but the way you went about doing it was unfair, unscrupulous, unethical, and should be unlawful. Suffice it to say you ended up upsetting the one group that actually mattered, your customers that bought and paid for your software and supported you in the past. And for what? Do you honestly believe the so-called "pirates" you were so concerned about care? Studies have shown time and time again that people who pirate software rarely ever would have paid for the software to begin with. So congratulations for shooting yourself in the foot. Because now youve GUARANTEED that I wont spend another penny on anything you or your Company does now and in the future. Version 3.0.9: Now youre just posting updates to wipe out mine (and the other) negative reviews. *Nothing* new posted in the changelog. Version 3.0.8: Still not worth $120 or even $70 a year. We all know why youre doing these rapid releases, so you can try to hide the negative reviews. Were not buying it Blogo. We dont want a subscription. Were already nickel & dimed enough in our lives as it is. Version 3.0.7: Nothing new in this update justifies me changing my review. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Blogo has become a rip-off. Note to Blogo Corp: You can restore some customer goodwill by providing a link to download the last version of Blogo 2 to your customers. At least that way those of us who CANT use your blatant rip-off of a subscription service can still manage our blogs. Version 3.0.6: Nothing new in this update justifies me changing my review. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Blogo has become a rip-off. Version 3.0.5: Releasing fast updates with no real substantial bug-fixes or features only serves the purpose for erasing the negative reviews. Were not buying-it, Blogo. You can show a sign of good-faith to your current and former customers by making Version 2.x of Blogo (that didnt require a subscription) available for download on your website. Version 3.0.4: BE CAUTIOUS of 5-star reviews when the user has only ever posted ONE review on the App Store. Im not saying that theres any astroturfing going on here, but you owe it to yourself to look at ALL the reviews for the most recent versions of this app and draw your own conclusions. Purchased the original Blogo back in 2006-2007 timeframe back when it had a rabbit for a logo (at least I think that was a rabbit). And that version was EPIC. It was good. It was AWESOME. Yes it had bugs, but it did EVERYTHING I wanted it to do and more. Then Blogo went away for YEARS. It resurfaces and is re-written, and I purchased THAT (this) software. It was like $15-$25 but woth it. Now Blogo wants me to fork over even more money? For what? Aside from the fact I dont want my data to be syncd to remote servers, $10 per month is wholesale too much to charge. I pay Netflix $10/ month, and they bring me House of Cards. What has Blogo brought me other than new ways of asking me for money? Youve given me 3 years of "pro" service for being a long time customer. Thats nice. Thank you. But you failed to take into account that I manage blogs and content for several people and Id rather not have disparate types of content and accounts co-mingled with my own. But hey! WordPress 4.5 was released and theyve done a FANTASTIC job on the content editor, and it now even has responsive previews built in! Uninstalling. Remember kids, there are cheaper and better alternatives.

Full scam.

New update and same problem. I bought this app for almost 30$, and now is free plus they charge 10$ monthly for using some basic functions available in other apps like MarsEdit. This subscription is as expensive as Office or Adobe CC. I really don’t know what they are thinking but this price scheme is just a total scam. I was waiting for a proper update but important features are still missing. This app is just too basic, the way to format text is not friendly. Basic formatting like aligning text, changing font size, font color or changing properties of embed image are missing. This are basic properties that makes a difference in a blog. Nice way to make happy loyal customers.

Swindled

Bought what I thought was a good, solid multi-blog client, and that’s what I got…for a while. Now, with once basic features hidden behind a new, monthly subscription system and forced login, it’s clear the time is now for bailing on this app.

RIP OFF!

Bought it. Made a bunch of blogs with it. Now screwed by the latest "update". Literally cant use the app or features I paid for anymore without creating an account and paying to turn the features I paid for back on. Oughta be a law against this kind of thing. Until then, use anything else you can find.

jumping on the subscription bandwagon

Why not leave the old version as it was, and bring out a new subscription version with all the new fancy features? That would be a little more straight up. Goodbye Blogo OLDER REVIEW I’ll leave the old review down below. I’ve had this since it came out and after each update I will try it out, but have to say it basically has almost no functionality aside from just making a quick word post. Otherwise, sorting, viewing, editing, everything is cumbersome, non-existent or just doesn’t work (with warning errors that don’t make sense). I know the developers are working on it, but I can’t say I would recommend this... OLDEST REVIEW I read all the reviews and despite all the warnings that it’s beta went ahead and made the purchase. It is a good start, they’ve put in good effort and attention to detail. It’s going to need a lot of work, and I really hope it will develop. Most frustrating, is the lack of functions within the app. Basic things like choosing from pre-existing categories that you always post with or other simple fields that modify posts, none of these exist. I keep going back and back to this app hoping that it can provide a fast way of updating sites, but I find it too questionable that I never know what I’m going to get and it doesn’t handle things correctly (text formatting, video embeds, categories, etc). What is good : the strong point is posting. You can write and post really quickly, just like editing a text document. Other smaller issues : lack ability to filter and sort content. It’s hard to see clearly what is in your blog. This could be such an awesome app if it offered good ways to really interact with the posts and pages inside of a WP blog. Instead, right now Pages and Posts are just all clumped together in an unhelpful way and you can’t even adjust the width of the post title column to read the complete titles to find what you are looking for. I was really hoping for the ability to make some quick modifications and edits which can be so cumbersome in WP. I haven’t found the major speed problems that others mentioned, so maybe the update helped improve those issues.

Stay away

They don’t allow you to use basic functioanlty without creating an account with them. An account should only be required if I want to get the Pro features!

Pricing model changed, but that’s okay.

I’m docking one star because they changed pricing models. I hate subscription services myself, especially when they are introduced into a product I’ve already paid for. There were two ways they could have gone here… kept this product unchanged in which case it might or might not work with the next version of Mac OS (scheduled to come out soon). Maybe this next version was okay but one of the supported platforms makes an API change… and it dies due to that. Either way, we’re looking at a 1-3 year window. The other way, and what they chose to do, was to give previous purchases a 3 year pro subscription. Based on their pricing that means for my original $30 not only did I get the time before the change but I also get three ~$60 year long pro subscriptions. Or at least I’m supposed to. Which means continued active development, new features I didn’t originally pay for, etc. If you read their blog post you’ll see they were in a bind with piracy. Not an unusual situation but it’s one of the many reasons everything is moving to subscriptions these days, despite me not liking that very much.

Very disappointing

This app simply doesn’t do very much. Sure, you can prepare your WordPress post offline, but I can do that in any text editor. It has limitations as you cannot access any plugin-specific tags etc. in the Blogo editor, cannot access the rest of WordPress (for example to manage your images and other media), etc. Blogo also makes some annoying default assumptions, such as that I want featured images to be 150px in a world of retina displays. Of course, this default can be modified, but it shows me that the developers don’t live in the same content production world. Overall, a very expensive product that doesn’t do very much.

Must have tool for professional bloggers

I have been using the beta version of Blogo for about two weeks now. It makes some common blogger tasks a lot easier. Like the importing of images and videos with the Chrome Extension, Image Editing and Uploading, Text Formatting, Managing Comments and many others. It’s a must have tool for anyone that manages and write regularly or professionaly for a blog.
